Has achieved Master level competencies in the instruction and coaching of all 4 disciplines (foil, epee, sabre and artistic). |
The ORIENTATION course is designed for the introduction of fencing at a primary
school-age level. Orientation Instructors first acquire bronze fencing competencies and are then taught how to teach
fencing to children and then, step-by-step presents the En Garde! Kids Fencing program. The
INSTRUCTOR course is designed for the introduction of fencing at the
secondary school-age level offering the En Garde! Fencing Bronze Competency Certification. The COACH introduces the Individual Lesson
as the preferred form of instruction and offers the Silver and Gold Competency Certification for foil fencing. The PREVOST D'ARMES acts the same as the COACH but can offer instruction in all 4 disciplines (foil, epee, sabre and artistic fencing). The FENCING MASTER instructs and examines the
intricacies of each discipline (foil, epee, sabre and artistic fencing) and their
sport-specific coaching implications. Accreditation at all levels requires the
successful completion of a theory component (sport sciences), and
then a technical component (application of the sport sciences to
the sport-specifics of fencing coaching) and finally a practical
period to reinforce and develop these fencing-specific teaching skills.

PREVOST D'ARMES OF THE ACADEMY
FOIL, SABRE, EPEE and ARTISTIC FENCING |
The Prevost d'Armes criteria is currently being revised.
|
MAITRE D'ARMES OF THE ACADEMY
|
This level of training
focuses on the capacity to professionally manage a fencing
club. As the A.A.N. (Académie d'Armes Nationale) the A.A.F.
(Australian Academy of Fencing) follows the A.A.I. (Académie
d'Armes Internationale) Criteria for the Organization of
Technical Training in World Fencing Academies and as such
requires 600 hours over the entire course of study to become a
Maître d'Armes. An important component of the criteria
is The Booklet of Maitre
Training which is clearly intended to have equivilency under
the "Eurocoach" program, requires the recording of all curriculum vitae,
examinations and accreditations obtained. This booklet will thus
become the calling card of each Maître to work in the world of
fencing. The eventual goal would be a Diploma under the auspices
of the A.A.N., the A.A.I.and the F.I.E.who, on the
organizational chart would act for the expanding of our sport.
En Garde! The
serious fencers' training diary includes an area to record
details of all courses, examinations and accreditations
undertaken. The En Garde! Diary truly is a must-have
for every serious fencing coach!
PREVOT: Pre-requisite:
Fencing Proficiency - minimum of State/Provincial finalist (top8)
ranking or equivalent standard and a minimum of three years
fencing competition experience.
MAITRE: Pre-requisite:
Personal fencing Proficiency - minimum of National finalist (top8)
ranking or equivalent standard and a minimum of 5 years
competition experience. This course is concerned with the
individual lesson: Advanced Foil, Epee and Sabre.
The candidate coach will be required to submit their assignment
and/or thesis at
the presentation of the examination. The assignment for the level
3 coach is: Design a yearly training program based on the
specifics of your situation that incorporates the
sport-specific physiological, technical, psychological and
tactical components of fencing, complete with periodic testing,
minimum standards and goals in each component area. The Thesis
option requires the Candidate to explore a sport-specific area of
expertise that has not previously been addressed.
