The
En Garde!
Learn-to-Fence and Learn-to-Teach-Fencing
|
En Garde! Fencing is a first of it's kind and a
tribute to all the people who have contributed along the way!
The En Garde! program has been based on the Coaching Association of
Canada's National Coaching Certification Program and the Canadian Fencing
Federation's Technical Coaching Commission's implementation of the
program at a time when Prof. Bob Anderson was Technical Director of the
CFA and Chairman of the Fencing Academy of Canada, and "Poppa"
Carl Schwende, Father of Canadian Fencing, was the President of the
CFA. During that administration, the quality of fencing from
all the Provinces right across Canada soared.
The
En Garde! program involves 2 areas of fencing education, viz:
Orientation / Class Instruction and Individual Lessons / Training
for competition. The Level 0 and 1 Instructor incorporates mini-individual
lessons into class instruction to teach students to kinesthetically feel
the sensations associated with quality performance. The
level 2 Coach then learns to teach these
skills through a series of individual lessons while gaining
the practical experience required for accreditation at that level. So now, from
the very moment you pick up a foil to learn how to fence, the athlete can start developing the
same skills that are associated with high level
competition performance and the Coach starts to learn how to teach and train
for competition fencing excellence.

En Garde! fencing orientation and class instruction introduces the sport of
fencing in a non-competition, skill goal oriented way by focusing on
the feelings and sensations associated with the performance of the
fundamental sport-specific skills. And then by modifying rules
of the game we provide a natural growth and development ethos that
makes learning fun, while participants actually play a variety of
imaginative fencing games like : Star Wars (the forces of good
verses the forces of evil), Peter Pan and Capt. Hook (bouting formats), and The
Princess Bride (find the 6 fingered fencer). The
manual has been designed for primary school teachers and orientation
instructors.
Teaching fencing and learning how to fence has never been easier, or
more enjoyable!
