Before you purchase FENCING equipment ...... consider |
|
Remember, that the initial instruction you receive is just so
important for your future development in the sport or artistic
performance of fencing. If you are practicing the moves
incorrectly, you will get better at doing them incorrectly.
So it is imperative to checkout the background of the
Instructor/Coach, and if your not satisfied - find yourself an
AAF accredited Instructor / Coach. So, when you start fencing first prioritize your own
instruction i.e. go from classes (bronze competencies) to
individual tuition (silver & gold grade competencies). Then
purchase your equipment over a period of time: a foil, mask,
plastron, glove, uniform, electric weapon/s (foil/epee/sabre)
with non-maraging electric blades - and then, when you KNOW that fencing
is the sport for you, - FIE competition uniform, FIE mask and
start upgrading by replacing broken blades with FIE (maraging) blades in
your electric weapons. If you have any questions

Some equipment
alternatives to consider:
-
Fencing
GLOVES: Fencing gloves can be rather expensive for the
beginner fencer but it is important to wear a glove when
learning how to fence. Initially any soft leather glove is
fine – consider a golf glove and if you wish, you can add a
piece of chamois leather at the wrist for the gauntlet.
-
Fencing
SHOES: Squash is a good cross-training sport for fencing and
a squash shoe has been designed to provide support for
similar foot-type movement as is found in fencing. Good
balance and support is required of any sporting shoe so
therefore for the serious athlete and/or adolescent we
suggest you consider consulting a Podiatrist regarding the
use of orthotics in your sporting shoes.
